Cypress
About Cypress
Cypress is extremely resistant to decay and insects making it the ideal choice for siding, trim, barns, docks and interior applications. Cypress contains a natural preservative oil called cypressene, which makes it extremely resistant to rot and termite damage. Unless the cypress lumber is in direct contact with the ground, cypress does not need any further chemical treatment. It is dimensionally stable and naturally resistant to splitting and warping. This versatile wood has a natural beauty, with a rich grain, texture and color that will complement any architectural style, from rustic to traditional to post modern. This real wood reflects your good taste and adds dramatically to the value of your home or building. The beauty of cypress lumber matches the environment. If you want your home to have a serene, peaceful look, then cypress lumber is the answer.
Uses for cypress
Cypress can be used for various projects including:
- Building Material
- Outdoor Furniture

- Porches
- Fence Rails
- and siding for your house or other structures.
Cypress is a softwood, so you can easily cut it with a hand or powersaw, sand it, plane it, and trim it.
Cypress Pricing
Cypress is a little more expensive than other lumber, but the low maintainance cost (no treatments, etc.) of the lumber negates that.

Cedar
About Cedar
Red Cedar lumber has the widest distribution of any other conifer in the eastern United States. It can reach heights of 120 feet and 4 feet in diameter. It is a "pioneer" species, being one of the first trees to invade disturbed or growing areas. It grows very slowly, trees that are 20 years old are only about 20 feet tall with a diameter of 3 inches. Older trees have wide bases. The wood has a thin white sapwood, while the heartwood is red to deep reddish-brown. The sapwood may be in stripes, alternating with stripes of heartwood. The wood is moderately low in strength and stiffness, but it is high in shock resistance. Red cedar shrinks little during drying, good in dimensional stability, and known for its extremely fine and even grain, its flexibility and strength in proportion to its weight. It is easy to work and has moderate hardness. Red Cedar lumber is easy to work with both hand and machine tools and has a straight grain. Some Eastern Red Cedar lumber has tight knots, which can add to the beauty of the wood. Cedar holds nails well and has excellent gluing properties. Red Cedar is renowned for its high repellant to liquids and its natural phenol preservatives, which make it ideally suited for exterior use and interior use where humidity is high. The natural scent of cedar is known to repel bugs and spiders.
